Arisits' Statement

For the community photo project we choose to photograph U of A athletics and their facilities. We choose to take pictures of the baseball field, the swimmers practicing, the weight room, and the cross country team. These items all represented the U of A sports community to us. The university athletes spend a large amount of their time with their team mates, in the McKale center weight room, study rooms and practice areas. Continually, when sports teams travel, they go to competitions and events, which is a larger community of athletics including the other teams, coaches and the fans. Additionally through our photographs, we choose to emphasize the University’s colors of Red and Blue because these colors represent community to the athletes. These colors represent competition and are worn to show unity within the University of Arizona. The athletes are a community within the University because of the bond that the sports create, through hours of practice, work-outs and teamwork.

We as the photographers choose the University of Arizona athletics community because we both know the sense of community that accompanies being a part of a team. We know that sports teams are their own community with the large amount of time that they spend together. The athletes at the University of Arizona are a complete community that we the photographers understand.
